CARDIOLOGIST RECOGNIZED FOR REDUCING HEALTH DISPARITIES

Dr. Martha Gulati (43201), director of preventive cardiology and women’s cardiovascular health at The Ohio State University Medical Center, has received the first annual Heart of Women’s Health credo Award from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. The Coalition to Reduce Racial & Ethnic Disparities in CV Outcomes, or credo, seeks to give health care providers information and tools to equitably treat their diverse patient populations with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. Award recipients are passionate advocates for female patients, demonstrate a commitment to educating female patients about heart disease risks, have taken actions to improve care for women, recruit and mentor health care providers that treat or prevent cardiovascular disease, serve as role models to others who care for female patients, and have launched a clinic, patient education or outreach program or project specifically targeting women. 


WEXLER RECEIVES INAUGURAL OSMA PHYSICIAN ADVOCATE AWARD

Dr. Randell Wexler (43054), a family medicine physician at The Ohio State University Medical Center, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Ohio State Medical Association’s (OSMA) Physician Advocate Award. The award recognizes a physician who goes beyond his or her primary role of providing clinical treatment by advocating at the local, state and federal levels for the well being of the medical profession, patients and communities. Wexler has served on the OSMA Focused Task Force on Legislation since 2005 and as its chair from 2006 until March 2011. He has testified on behalf of OSMA before the legislature more than 10 times, including in favor of mandatory coverage for diabetes patients and eliminating mandatory referrals for dermatologist appointments.
