OSU PROFESSOR TO LEAD NATIONAL TRAUMATIC BRAN INJURY RESEARCH PROGRAM 

John D. Corrigan, PhD, professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will lead the project directors of the federally funded Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model Systems Program. Corrigan is the project director of Ohio State’s Ohio Regional TBI Model System, one of 16 centers nationally funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to study the initial recovery and lifelong changes that result from TBI.  Corrigan will chair the TBI Model Systems Executive Committee, a position which includes representing the centers' concerns to the public, elected officials, NIDRR and other federal programs concerned with the long-term effects of TBI.   

SATIANI ELECTED TO BOARD OF ASHA RAY OF HOPE 

Bhagwan Satiani, MD, MBA, FACHE, professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Vascular Diseases and of surgery in the department of surgery, has been elected to the board of ASHA Ray of Hope for a two-year term. ASHA Ray of Hope is a non-profit, community-based organization that works with victims of domestic violence in the South Asian community. The organization supports and counsels victims of domestic violence in Ohio, especially in the South Asian community. ASHA educates the greater community and connects victims with the resources they need to achieve self-reliance.  

OSU PHYSICIAN TEACHES COURSE IN CHINA 

Dr. Shaheen Islam, associate professor of internal medicine and associate medical director of the pulmonary diagnostic lab was invited to Peking University First Hospital in Beijing, China to teach interventional pulmonary techniques to physicians who are interested in performing these procedures in their practices. The training courses were focused on the advances in the field and the practical applications of interventional techniques.
