COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dr. Larry M. Jones (43230) has been named the director of the burn center at The Ohio State University Medical Center. 

He is leading the operation of central Ohio’s only treatment program for adult burn patients.  Ohio State’s burn center includes inpatient and outpatient burn wound care, physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work and nutrition services. In addition to treating patients, as director, Jones will coordinate patient care, research and education in the burn center.

Among his goals, Jones plans to expand collaboration among Ohio State’s trauma, surgical, rehabilitation and wound healing teams to advance burn research and care.  He also plans to incorporate the use of telemedicine to improve burn injury care and solidify relationships with community physicians, hospitals and emergency services.

He comes to Ohio State from Pittsburgh where he was burn director at West Penn Hospital and previously served as the director of the trauma and burn center at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Mercy Hospital.

Jones has authored five book chapters and 41 peer-reviewed research articles. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of many professional organizations including the American Burn Association, the American College of Surgeons, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Central Surgical Association. Jones also served as chairman of the burn committee for the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation where he led efforts to include data from Pennsylvania’s burn centers in the National Burn Repository.

He is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency in surgery at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
