COLUMBUS, Ohio – Several hundred organ transplant patients and their families will gather for the eighth annual Buckeye Transplant Reunion on Aug. 25 from 1-3 p.m. at the Ohio Union Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom, 1739 N. High St.

Media representatives are asked to call Medical Center Media Relations at 614-293-3737 to make arrangements to cover this event. There will be opportunities to speak with former transplant patients from across the country.

The Buckeye Transplant Reunion honors recipients, living donors, referring physicians and The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center transplant team.

Featured speakers at this year’s event include Dr. Robert Higgins, director of OSU’s Comprehensive Transplant Center; Laura Stillion, director of transplant services; Kent Holloway, chief executive officer at Lifeline of Ohio; as well as donors. Brutus the Buckeye and Lifeline Honeybee will also be making an appearance.

Started in 2005 as a picnic for transplant recipients at Whetstone Park with 150 in attendance, the event has grown over the years, with more than 500 attending last year’s event.

Ohio State’s Comprehensive Transplant Center, the area’s only adult transplant center, has been performing transplants for nearly 50 years and has one of the country’s largest transplant programs.
