RETCHIN APPOINTED TO MEDICAID AND CHIP PAYMENT AND ACCESSS COMMISSION

Dr. Sheldon Retchin, incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, has been appointed by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) as one of six members of the Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC). The Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 established MACPAC to review Medicaid and CHIP access and payment policies and to advise Congress on issues affecting Medicaid and CHIP.

 

OSUWMC NURSES RECOGNIZED AT OHIO’S MARCH OF DIMES NURSE AWARDS

Rochelle Santos, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) staff nurse at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, was named the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year in the Surgical Services category. She was also the recipient of the 2014 Lucy J. Schneiter Scholarship in Nursing. Forty other nurses from Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center were named as finalists for this award. The Ohio Nurse of the Year Awards is a state-wide event sponsored by the March of Dimes recognizing exceptional nurses, creating awareness of professional excellence and promoting the future of the nursing profession. This is the second year the awards have been given in the state of Ohio.

 

RAMAN ELECTED TO IAC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Subha Raman, MD, medical director of the Cardiac MRI and CT Lab at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, has been elected to the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) MRI Board of Directors. The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) provides accreditation programs for vascular testing, echocardiography, nuclear/PET, MRI, diagnostic CT, dental CT, carotid stenting and vein treatment and management.

 

OSUWMC NEUROSURGEON RECEIVES LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH

Mario Ammirati, MD, MBA, has received the Giovan Giacomo Giordano National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Lifetime Achievement Award for Ethics and Creativity in Medical Research. This award was established five years ago in honor of Dr. Antonio Giordano's father, the late Professor Giovan Giacomo Giordano, renowned pathologist, who dedicated over 60 years of his life to the study of cancer and the role of environment factors in the onset of this disease.

 

OSUWMC CHILD PSYCHIATRIST INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME FOR HIS WORK WITH PEOPLE WITH ADHD

L. Eugene Arnold, MD, MEd, has been inducted into the Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) Hall of Fame. The CHADD non-profit organization provides education, advocacy and support for individuals with ADHD. Arnold is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. He is Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Ohio State University, where he was formerly director of the division of child and adolescent psychiatry and vice-chair of psychiatry, and was recently interim director of the Nisonger Center university center of excellence in developmental disabilities.

 

OSUWMC RESEARCHER IS CHAIR-ELECT OF NATIONAL BRAIN INJURY SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

Jennifer Bogner, PhD, ABPP, has been elected to Chair-Elect of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine's (ACRM) Brain Injury Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group (BI-ISIG). ACRM is the largest interdisciplinary organization of researchers in rehabilitation and the BI-ISIG promotes high standards of rehabilitation practice, education and research among professionals with common interests in brain injury. Bogner is vice-chair of research and academic affairs for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University. She is a board certified rehabilitation psychologist and associate professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Ohio State University.

 

NEUROSCIENCE CHAIR CHOSEN FOR NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION’S ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Randy Nelson, PhD, has been selected to serve on the Biological Sciences Advisory Committee (BIO AC) of the National Science Foundation. The BIO AC advises the Directorate for Biological Sciences on programs to serve the scientific community, priority investment areas in biological research, promoting quality graduate and undergraduate education in biological science and more. Nelson is professor and chair of the Department of Neuroscience at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
