About Me
My focus is in ear, nose and throat surgery. I specialize in voice and airway disorders. I completed additional training in the field of laryngology, giving me expertise in treating voice and airway problems. I treat patients who speak or sing professionally, as well as those with narrowing of the airway.
I am passionate about helping people live as full a life as possible. Part of this passion comes from recognizing the fundamental role that the voice and airway play in our lives.
Part of my role as a physician is to teach patients as much as I can. I give them the information they need to feel good about making their own decisions about their health care. Our multidisciplinary team of experts works one-on-one with our patients to create a targeted treatment plan specific to their disease.
I love working at Ohio State because it's an environment of constant improvement. Everyone around me is always trying to make things better for our patients. It inspires me to work harder for my patients every day.
In my free time I enjoy the outdoors, Ohio State football games, reading, traveling and time with family. People are sometimes surprised to learn that I used to be a piano teacher and a Spanish teacher.

Dr. Matyrka knows her field very well and has kept me informed about developments in the field that are relevant to my condition. Very smart and a good communicator.
I felt like they spent a lot of time with me. They didn't rush my testing and took their time explaining the results and what my treatment options were. I felt "safe" with the doctor and the assistant. Everything was totally explained to me and they answered all my questions and did not make me feel like they were rushing or anything like that.
In communicating with each other as if the patient was not in the room, they kept saying "she said", as if they were in disbelief of the issues I explained I was having or as if it was something else because they test doesn't say that that was the issue.
Excellent ENT Doctor and excellent Speech Pathologist. Really know their field of medicine.
The doctor was great. She knew my history and approached the situation with hopefully good results.

This provider was the best I've ever had. Not only did she have great bed side manner but she appeared very knowledgeable and experienced in airway problems. She definitely made me comfortable and I very much appreciated that she took time during my visit to understand what was going on and talk about what's next and what to expect.

Because I live over 100 miles away, Dr. Matrka offered to do a procedure that day if a treatment room was available. It was and she did the procedure; that way I did not need to return for the procedure another day. I greatly appreciated this.

Dr. Matrka and Jennifer are easy to work with, knowledgeable and answers all of my questions.
Concerns were glossed over by provider. AVS was printed and brought into the room before I had much discussion regarding my concerns with the provider. The provider disrespected the facility (hospital location) where I practice as a physician.
I had to wait longer than I expected. My medical professional had me involved by showing my film (replay) of swallowing and explaining what I was seeing.
Dr. Matrka took the extra time to perform a procedure that was not on the schedule. I really appreciated instead of making me reschedule! She is so caring!

I have been seeing Dr. Matrka about my chronic cough since 2015. My primary care - giver wanted Dr. Matrka to check for any changes in my larynx. As always she seemed to remember me & my issues. While she still didn't have any solutions, she alloyed my fears.
