About Me
I’m a neuropsychologist and rehabilitation psychologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I work in the inpatient unit at Dodd Hall for individuals with traumatic brain injury as well as with individuals in the general rehabilitation unit. In addition, I’m an outpatient provider who conducts neuropsychological assessment on individuals with acquired brain injury (traumatic brain injury, stroke, etc.) and individuals with suspected cognitive impairment.
I specialize in traumatic brain injury although I enjoy getting to understand more about a variety of neurologic injuries from my patients. Many times I see individuals when they are recovering in our inpatient rehabilitation unit and I have the luxury of monitoring recovery. I’m passionate about the full continuum of care and being able to help individuals on the inpatient service with recommendations regarding their return to work, school and driving as well as adjustment to injury-related issues. Following up with those same individuals three to six months later and updating recommendations based on their progress makes my job worthwhile.
On the inpatient service, I meet with individuals as well as their families (with patient permission) to tell more about my role on the team and answer basic questions about what to expect during their inpatient stay. I try to get to know individuals and see how they were functioning prior to their injuries (e.g., What do they do for work? What is their educational background? What is their social support like at home?). I usually conduct a brief assessment to capture how they are functioning in that moment to make recommendations to the team as well as to family members. I try to review expectations for recovery from the injury and make the patient and their family have an understanding of the injury and recovery trajectory.
On the outpatient service, I typically meet with the patient and at least one family member or close friend. I try to gain an understanding of the patient’s concerns (e.g., memory problems, irritability, eagerness to return to work following injury). I will explain what to expect regarding neuropsychological assessment and how it can inform the treatment plan. Approximately two weeks after the assessment, I meet with the patient and their family to review results and, more importantly, recommendations.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I’m an avid sports fan and enjoy watching football. Go Browns! I have two dogs that keep me busy (and wake me up at least 30 minutes before my alarm).
