What is a registered dietician?
According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, registered dietitians (RDs) are food experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living. RDs use their expertise to help people make unique, positive lifestyle changes. A registered dietician has:
- Earned a bachelor’s degree with course work approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- Completed an accredited, supervised practice program at a healthcare facility, community agency or foodservice corporation
- Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Completed continuing professional education requirements by state licensing boards. In Ohio, the Ohio Board of Dietetics regulates RD practice.
