Research provides the foundation for advancing evidence-based integrative health care.

The Ohio State University is among the nation’s leaders of integrative health and wellness research.

Examples of our leadership role in integrative health and wellness research include:

  • The Ohio State University was ranked among the nation’s top 25 universities for funding from the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine in 2013.
  • There are 17 tenure initiating units and more than 40 unique primary investigators with integrative health and wellness funding at the University.
  • There are 45 extramurally funded projects at OSU that contain an integrative health and wellness research element, totaling more than $130 million in project support.
  • OSU is represented in the Research Working Group of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine.
  • The Ohio State University has two additional centers conducting related research in integrative health and wellness topics: the Food Innovation Center and the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research​.

CIHW Research Initiatives

The Center for Integrative Health and Wellness brings researchers together and fosters future interdisciplinary translational research. Specific ways in which CIHW supports research include:

  • Pilot funding for research that is anticipated to lead to larger, definitive projects 
  • Annual research awards to recognize and celebrate excellence that will quickly translate into improved clinical care 
  • Academic partnerships with community groups​ engaged in scholarly examination of complementary and alternative medicine

Members of the Center for Integrative Health and Wellness make up a network of individuals engaged in research, education, clinical service and community connection initiatives to foster flourishing human health through integrative health care. Membership is free and open to all.
