  • Viral hepatitis B or C 
  • Autoimmune conditions such as autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis
  • Genetic/metabolic conditions such as hereditary hemochromatosis, Wilson’s disease and alpha 1 antitrypsin disease, among others
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer)
  • Chronic alcohol abuse
  • Fatty liver
