Research Lab: Stress and Health in Pregnancy Research Program

Dr. Christian's CV

General Research: Dr. Christian is a clinical health psychologist and the principal investigator of the Stress and Health in Pregnancy Research Program. Her research program focuses on behavioral medicine in pregnancy, with an emphasis on effects of psychological stress on immune function. Across studies, common themes in her research are 1) depressive symptoms, 2) racial disparities, 3) maternal obesity/nutrition and 4) maternal sleep quality. Outcomes of interest include cardiovascular functioning, immune responses to acute stress, viral latency, inflammatory processes and antibody responses to influenza virus vaccine.

Research Techniques: Psychosocial and behavioral assessment, assessment of immune and cardiovascular functioning

Current Research Projects: Dr. Christian’s current project is examining effects of psychosocial stress and obesity on maternal antibody responses to influenza virus vaccine during pregnancy, maternal antibody maintenance over time and efficiency of antibody transfer from the mother to the neonate.
