A Message from Our Chief Residents

Thank you for visiting our website!

We are proud of the history and excellence of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. As residents, we benefit from the tradition of this institution and our specialty leaders that have trained here as well.

We are proud of many Ohio State milestones and opportunities, including:

  • Our musculoskeletal (MSK) training program includes a longitudinal didactic curriculum in musculoskeletal medicine and MSK ultrasound.
  • Our Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model Systems institution offers opportunities in clinical care and research with leaders in brain injury medicine.
  • We have the state’s only accredited Cancer Rehabilitation Program. We are advancing our collaboration with Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center — James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. This includes new Cancer Rehabilitation faculty.
  • Our department chair – in collaboration with the departments of Neuroscience and of Neurological Surgery – is pioneering research into human-machine interfaces to improve movement in spinal cord injury patients. Our program director is supportive of residents, including ongoing curricular advancements over the years.

While most of our time is spent at Ohio State, we have the opportunity to work at a variety of settings including the Columbus VA Hospital, private practice and a leading children’s hospital. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is consistently named to the Best Hospitals list by U.S. News & World Report.

New collaborations with Ohio State’s Comprehensive Spine Center have led to an expanding PM&R presence in spine care, including three full-time pain medicine physicians and a PM&R-friendly anesthesia-based, ACGME-accredited Pain Fellowship. After training at Ohio State, residents are not only prepared to succeed in practice, but equipped to thrive from the exposure and variety of patients seen during residency.

We’re Proud to Call Columbus Our Home

As a group of chiefs, we come from Canada, Ohio and New Jersey. While our paths were all different, spending our residency at Ohio State has been wonderful. Columbus is an under-the-radar city we’ve loved calling home.

This is a festival city with a seemingly endless supply of weekend celebrations. Whether Buckeyes fans or not, we’ve all enjoyed the atmosphere at Ohio State during the fall. Two seasons ago, we saw a playoff run from the Columbus Blue Jackets, our National Hockey League team. The Schottenstein Center and Nationwide Arena draw some of the largest musical acts. The local music scene thrives, too, with one of the best outdoor music pavilions in the country. The Columbus Crew provide an easy sporting event and Crew Stadium — the official home of U.S. Men’s Soccer — regularly hosts national and international games.

With so much going on in Columbus, it can seem tough to see it all. The waterfront trails along the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, robust biking and walking trail systems in the Columbus Metro Parks and an intramural sports scene make for additional active hobbies. Our residents play in softball and basketball leagues, pick-up soccer games and the regular golf outing. We are proud of our residents and program.

Please contact us if you have any questions about Ohio State, Columbus or our program!
