You will be having a procedure that requires you to empty your bowels, such as a colonoscopy. [Text on screen: Preparing for your procedure] Over the next few minutes, we will tell you how to prepare. [Text on screen: Review your written instructions via: MyChart or mail] After your procedure is scheduled, you should receive written instructions through MyChart or by mail. Please read the instructions carefully as soon as you get them. [Text on screen: You may need to make changes to your medicines] You may need to make changes to your medicines many days ahead of time. [Text on screen: Medication before your procedure. How do I take the medicines for this test?] You should always ask the doctor who orders these medicines how to take the medicines for this test. [Text on screen: Medication before your procedure. DO NOT STOP taking your blood thinner medicine without talking to your doctor.] Do not stop taking your blood thinner medicine without talking to your doctor. [Text on screen: 5 days before your procedure, Do Not eat foods with: Seeds, Nuts, Leafy greens, Popcorn, Fruit with skin or seeds, Whole grains or high fiber foods, Supplements (iron or fiber)] Starting five days before your procedure, you should not eat foods with seeds, nuts, leafy greens, popcorn, fruit with skin or seeds, or whole grains or high fiber foods. And do not take vitamins with iron, iron tablets, or fiber supplements. [Text on screen: 5 days before your procedure, you may have low residue foods. - Less food waste Cheese, White bread, Crackers] You may have low residue foods, meaning that they create less food waste to go through your large intestine. Some examples are cheese, white bread and crackers, but there are many others. [Text on screen: Starting the day before your procedure - Drink only clear liquids. - STOP all solid foods - No milk - No dairy - No alcohol Starting the day before your procedure, you must start a clear liquid diet. This means you stop eating all solid foods, no milk or dairy products, and no alcohol. [Text on screen: Starting the day before your procedure Clear liquids that are okay: - Water, flavored water, or ice chips - Coffee or tea (no milk or cream) - Ginger ale or lemon-lime soda - Fruit juices you can see through, such as apple or white grape - Gatorade, other sports drinks, or drink mixes like Kool-Aid - Popsicles (no fruit or cream) - Jell-O or other gelatin, without fruit - Clear broth or bouillon] Liquids as shown here are ok to take. [Text on screen: Starting the day before your procedure No red or purple fluids or popsicles. Keep hydrated!] Please do not drink any fluids or popsicles that are red or purple colored. Drink plenty of fluids for hydration until your procedure. [Text on screen: The day before your procedure - Bowel Prep Mixture - One day MiraLAX and Dulcolax Bowel prep] The day before your procedure, you will start your bowel preparation solution. We will review the process for the one day MiraLAX and Dulcolax bowel prep. [Text on screen: The day before your procedure You may get a different type of bowel preparation, so please carefully review your preparation instructions.] [Text on screen: The day before your procedure at 3 p.m. - Take 4 Dulcolax tablets - Pour all the MiraLAX and 64 ounces of a sports drink into a large container and shake well You may get a different type of bowel preparation, so please carefully review your preparation instructions. At 3 p.m., take four Dulcolax tablets. Pour all the MiraLAX and 64 ounces of a sports drink, such as Gatorade or Powerade into a large container. Shake well then place it into the refrigerator to keep cool. [Text on screen: No red or purple fluids] Remember, do not use red or purple drinks. [Text on screen: If you have diabetes, please use a sugar free sports drink. If you have diabetes, please use a sugar-free sports drink. [Text on screen: Keep hydrated!] Keep drinking water throughout the day. [Text on screen: The day before your procedure at 6 p.m. - Bowel Prep Mixture - Drink one 8-ounce glass of the mixture every 10 to 15 minutes - Nausea? Use a straw if the smell or taste bothers you - Or try chewing gum or sucking on hard candy] At 6 p.m., drink one 8-ounce glass of the mixture every 10 to 15 minutes until you finish half of it. Place the rest back in the refrigerator. It may help to use a straw if the smell or taste bothers you. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy between drinks can also help with the taste or may lessen any nausea. [Text on screen: 6 hours before your test - Bowel Prep Mixture - Drink the rest of the mixture] Six hours before your test, drink the rest of the mixture. [Text on screen: You may need to set your alarm to finish drinking the prep mixture] You may need to set your alarm to get up to finish your prep medicine, depending on your procedure time. [Text on screen: 6 hours before your test Drink two 8-ounce glasses of clear liquid] Drink at least two 8-ounce glasses of clear liquids after you finish the mixture. [Text on screen: 4 hours before your test STOP drinking ALL liquids.] You must stop drinking all liquids four hours before your test.
