Stillion: La'Ericka, what have you enjoyed most about your time here at the medical center this summer? Butts: At Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, I've really enjoyed networking and learning about different careers within the hospital setting, clinical and non-clinical. Lucas: Why should someone apply to be a Buckeye Pathways summer intern? Butts: You should consider applying for this internship because it's a transformative opportunity for you to build your professional career, and it offers you access to work with the collegiate of members within the hospital setting that can help you with your career, especially if you're looking for something in the hospital setting. Lucas: My key takeaway from our Buckeye Pathways summer interns is that I learned so much about their experiences, their fresh eyes and their environment and the diversity they bring to our culture. Butts: Being a part of this internship showed me the value in taking every opportunity to reach out, to ask questions, and to also shadow places you've never considered. During my time here, I got to shadow a plethora of places that have broadened my perspective, especially as an inspiring social worker. I got to see them in different settings within the health care setting, which has been very transformative for me. Stillion: What La'Ericka's desire to understand our patient struggles and envision how she could help in the future, being an aspiring social worker, was really inspiring to me. She approached every interaction with compassion and purpose and really brought a fresh perspective to the work that we do and helped remind us all about the why behind what we do every day. Lucas: I really valued learning from La'Ericka about her fresh perspective on our culture, learning new parts of the system that we see as every day, and her embracing the East culture and the diversity it brings.
