We are excited to introduce you to the world-class care and accommodations you'll experience in the new University Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center among the hospital's many impressive features. Our three floors dedicated to maternity care with the finest amenities in central Ohio. This virtual tour will provide a look at what to expect when delivering your Buckeye baby at Ohio State. [Onscreen text: Call prior to arrival - In labor - Water has broken - Concerns or questions] Narrator: Call your provider's office prior to arriving to the hospital if you think you're in labor, your water has broken, or if you have concerns or questions. Calling ahead will allow our staff to repair for your arrival and ensure you receive timely care. Calling ahead can also help if you're scheduled for an induction or cesarean birth. [Onscreen text: Parking and arrival] [Onscreen text: 520 W. 10th Avenue] Narrator: When you're directed to come to the hospital, you'll have the option to valet park at our main entrance at 520 West 10th Avenue or self-park in the adjoining Wexner Medical Center garage at 527 West 10th Avenue. [Onscreen text: 527 W. 10th Avenue] Narrator: Our main entrance on the ground floor is open 24/7 for drop-off or valet service. This service is free for admitted maternity patients and pregnant patients visiting the OBED and is the most convenient entrance for Labor and Delivery. If you choose to self-park in the adjoining garage, park on the fourth floor and enter the hospital via the bridge connector to the second floor lobby. [Onscreen text: Checking in] Narrator: Upon entering the hospital lobby at the ground level or on the second floor from the parking garage, a patient representative will direct you to the elevators. [Onscreen text: Express elevator to Labor and Delivery - Two elevators - Access from ground or 2nd floor - Nonstop to 23rd floor] Narrator: If labor is progressing quickly, two express elevators are available to take you nonstop to Labor and Delivery on the 23rd floor. Just press the elevator button labeled "urgent access to Labor and Delivery." On the Labor and Delivery floor, you'll check in with the registration staff. Unless you're scheduled for a C-section or induction, you'll be escorted to a private OBED triage room. Here, you and your baby will be assessed and monitored to see where you are in the labor process. One visitor or support person may accompany you in the OBED triage area. [Onscreen text: Labor and delivery] Narrator: When it's time to have the baby, you'll be admitted to a Labor and Delivery room or prepped for a cesarean birth, depending on your needs. Our Labor and Delivery rooms are spacious, private birthing suites providing a combination of comfort and state-of-the-art technology, including a 65-inch digital foot wall. They're equipped with a large bathroom and walk-in shower. Specialized amenities, such as birthing balls, peanut balls and wireless fetal monitoring, are available to help with labor. [Onscreen text: Comforts from home - Music - Speakers - Aromatherapy - Massage tools] Narrator: You may also bring comforts from home, such as music, aromatherapy and massage tools to ease labor discomfort and create a calming environment. [Onscreen text: Pain medication - Epidural - IV options - Nitrous oxide] Narrator: Pain medication can include epidural, IV options and nitrous oxide. Our anesthesiologists are here 24/7 to provide an epidural if that's part of your birth plan. [Onscreen text: Visitors and support people Labor and delivery room: - 3 visitors including labor support person - 1 doula Operating and recovery room: - 1 visitor only] Narrator: During labor, you are welcome to have three visitors, including your labor support person, in your Labor and Delivery room. If you choose to have a doula, your doula may accompany you and your three visitors. For cesarean births, only one visitor is permitted with you in the pre-surgery, operating room and recovery room areas. Children younger than 12 are not permitted within Labor and Delivery unless they're a child of the patient. [Onscreen text: Meal vouchers - 3 vouchers for use at the University Hospital Terrace Cafe, 2nd floor] Narrator: When you are in Labor and Delivery, you'll receive three meal vouchers. Your support person can use these at the hospital's Terrace Cafe whenever they'd like, or you can use them for yourself once you move to your postpartum room. [Onscreen text: Water birth] Narrator: If you choose to have a pregnancy supported by a certified nurse midwife, our midwife team will collaborate to provide care throughout labor and delivery, including the option for water birth and hydrotherapy. Our two private water birthing suites are equipped with all the labor and delivery amenities, plus a large birthing tub. Please discuss your options with your midwife ahead of delivery. [Onscreen text: Cesarean birth] Narrator: If you are delivering by cesarean section, there are four state-of-the-art operating rooms on the same floor as the labor and delivery rooms. This includes a room specially equipped to support twin and triplet births. [Onscreen text: Postpartum] Narrator: After you deliver, you and the baby will move to a private postpartum room on the 24th floor for the rest of your stay. From nine-foot windows that fill each room with natural light to comfortable furniture and convenience features, every detail is designed to give you the best comfort and rest. All of our postpartum rooms are designed with the latest technology to create the very best possible experience, including a 75-inch digital footwall, offering access to education, relaxation and entertainment content, and bedside controls for TV room lighting, window shades, and nurse call. Each room is also outfitted with a large pullout couch that your support person may use for overnight stays. For meals, you'll have online ordering available through the MyChart Bedside tablet or the Ohio State MyHealth app on your personal device. [Onscreen text: Hospital stay - Vaginal birth: 1 to 2 days - Cesarean birth: 2 to 3 days] Narrator: For vaginal deliveries, you'll stay here for one to two days. If you have a cesarean birth, you'll stay with us for two to three days. [Onscreen text: Visitor policy - General visitors: 6 a.m.-8 p.m. - One adult visitor anytime, including overnight] Narrator: Hospital visiting hours are offered during the day for general visitors, including children. One adult visitor may stay with you anytime, including overnight. Our visitor policy does not permit children under 18 years of age to stay overnight. [Onscreen text: Lactation support - Lactation consultants - Nursing staff] Narrator: Lactation support is available 24/7, and you can expect to be seen by a lactation consultant within 24 hours of delivering. Many of our nursing staff are also board-certified lactation consultants. Hospital-grade breast pumps are available in every postpartum room. Please leave personal pumps at home. [Onscreen text: Paperwork provided - Birth certificate - Social Security number] Narrator: You will also be provided with all the paperwork to complete your baby's birth certificate and request a Social Security number without having to leave your room. [Onscreen text: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)] Narrator: Should your baby need extra care, the Nationwide Children's Hospital Level Three Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is available at Ohio State with every type of specialized care baby would need while in the NICU. NICU rooms range in size, with the largest design to accommodate triplets. All rooms have large picture windows for natural light, a family area with pullout couch for overnight stays, and a private bathroom. A family lounge offers a refrigerator, freezer, coffee machine and microwave in a central, daylight space with a view of the outdoors. [Onscreen text: Discharge] Narrator: When it's time for you to be discharged, a staff member will take you and your baby in a wheelchair to a designated pickup area where your support person will meet you.
