At Ohio State, we have many studies looking at different areas of diabetes in pregnancy,

including gestational diabetes, preexisting type 2 diabetes, and type 1 diabetes. We are looking at hybrid closed-loop therapy during labor and delivery and whether we can continue that particular subset of technology that is quite advanced during that special challenging time of labor and delivery.

Hybrid-closed loop therapy is a particular type of insulin pump. We call it automated insulin delivery. So it's where a patient wears an insulin pump as well as a continuous glucose monitor, and they communicate so that the insulin pump adjusts the insulin delivery based on the sensor glucose. So if the sensor glucose is reading high, the insulin delivery is increased, and if the sensor glucose is reading low, the insulin delivery will either decrease or even stop for a particular amount of time and automate that insulin delivery based on predicted sensor glucose in the future.

We're also doing a study with several other sites around the United States looking at the risk of type 1 diabetes in either the mom or father having type 1 diabetes themselves and the risk to the baby. And that's a longer-term follow-up study.
