I'm one of the optometrists here at Ohio State in the Advanced Specialty Contact Lens Clinic in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. In our clinic, we use a lot of advanced technology to fit scleral lenses to provide the best patient outcome possible. One of the devices we use is called the iContour profile system. This device measures the eye in one million data points to provide the exact specific shape of the eye when we design a scleral contact lens. This process is painless and takes about eight to 10 minutes for both eyes to be scanned. Once we have that data, we can send that data to a scleral lens manufacturer to create an exact copy of your eye in a scleral lens.
