Ohio State Health & Discovery Health Talks Chyle Doubeni: My roles at Ohio State in equity and medicine [Music playing] Chyke Doubeni, MD, MPH: I have a number of roles at The Ohio State University [Text on screen: Chyke Doubeni, MD, MPH Chief Health Equity Officer, Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Associate Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, OSUCCC – James] and at the Wexner Medical Center, my role is the chief health equity officer. [Music fades] Within this role, I serve to provide strategic direction and guidance, as well as implementation of strategies to, one, identify and also then address the underlying reasons for disparities or differences in the quality and outcomes of care. In The James, I serve this broader role, but also specifically I serve as the associate director for the Plan to Enhance Diversity. In essence, what this role is about ensuring that we have a workforce that reflects the community in which we serve. So for instance, we have a fairly low representation of people from minority backgrounds such as African-American, even people from Appalachia and other areas. So within this role, I work with the leadership to promote access to research experiences that enable people to grow in this area to become researchers, and hopefully in the future, also become leaders in the cancer center.
