Which hip replacement method is right for you? [Music playing] [Text on screen: Ohio State Health & Discovery Which hip replacement method is right for you?] Jeffrey Reeves, MD: For hip replacement, we have several different approaches to the hip that we can utilize to replace the affected joint. [Text on screen: Jeffrey Reeves, MD Orthopedic Surgeon Ohio State Wexner Medical Center] Myself, I use an anterior approach and a posterior approach to the hip, and I tailor that based on my patient, their body habitus, and where I think the wound is going to be more likely to heal. For my anterior approach patients, oftentimes there's a little bit of a quicker recovery period, typically getting back to doing the activities of everyday living by the six to eight-week point. For posterior approach, it's a little bit slower of a recovery process, but oftentimes it can be a safer approach in patients that may have risks for compromise of their incision.
