Intensive care is sometimes necessary for patients with severe illness who are in need of life support measures and close monitoring of vital signs, for patients who have sustained serious traumatic injury, patients with severe infections resulting in shock and patients experiencing a serious condition requiring a high level of care around the clock.

If your loved one is receiving care in one of our intensive care units (ICUs), you can feel confident our skilled staff is providing 24-hour attention. Ohio State is of very few comprehensive centers for critical care in the United States with multiple distinctions: 

  • The only American Burn Association-certified adult burn center in central Ohio
  • Central Ohio's only comprehensive adult organ and bone marrow transplantation program
  • A Level 1 Trauma Center 
  • The only emergency department in central Ohio with hyperbaric medicine facilities
  • Central Ohio's only comprehensive wound center
