As senior associate vice president for the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and Health Sciences, Anne Garcia leads the team of attorneys within the Office of Legal Affairs that serves the Wexner Medical Center. In addition, Anne serves as the senior associate general counsel and chief compliance officer for the Wexner Medical Center and Health Sciences.

The Office of Legal Affairs provides legal advice and representation to the Wexner Medical Center administration, physicians and staff as well as to the Health Sciences colleges. The office advises and counsels on all matters having legal significance for the university and medical center, including contract review, legal workshops and education programs. The Office of Legal Affairs provides oversight of all litigation, including cases assigned to special counsel appointed by the Attorney General for the state of Ohio. The Office of Legal Affairs seeks to advance the mission of the university and the medical center by collaborating on business initiatives and providing sound legal counsel.

Anne joined Ohio State in 2016 from Saint Louis University, where she was the senior associate general counsel and executive director of University Compliance. She served as the university’s legal representative in risk management, professional liability insurance, graduate medical education, HIPAA, regulatory investigations, healthcare transactions and physician services agreements for SLUCare Physician Group, the academic medical practice of Saint Louis University. Prior to her work at Saint Louis University, Anne was in private practice for many years, focused on defending physicians, nurses and hospitals involved in medical malpractice litigation.

She received her Juris Doctorate from Tulane University School of Law, and attended the University of Notre Dame where she graduated cum laude. While in law school, she practiced as a student attorney with the Tulane Juvenile Law Clinic, which represented the underserved youth population of New Orleans in criminal and civil litigation. Anne is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Missouri and is certified in Health Care Compliance. She is also an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, the Health Care Compliance Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
