Position summary

Medical Records Coding Spclst (Job Opening 443561) - Scope of Position This area codes inpatient and outpatient medical records to facilitate the reimbursement and data collection for the individual business units of the OSU Health System. ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS codes are assigned for the diagnoses and procedures for all inpatients treated within the OSU Health System. ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses and procedure codes are applied to inpatients and CPT-4 procedure codes are applied to all outpatients treated within the OSU Health System that are not captured through the charge description master. Medical record abstract data is reviewed for accuracy in IHIS before completing the chart. This position is responsible for coding some or all the following types of records: inpatient, emergency room, outpatient surgery, outpatient clinic, pain block and ancillary areas. Position Summary The position is primarily responsible for coding of medical records and other documents at the conclusion of the patient?s visit. This requires selection of appropriate admitting diagnosis, principal and secondary diagnoses, and sequencing diagnoses and procedures. Codes flow from the Encoder Software to IHIS Resolute Billing system. This staff member is responsible for complete and accurate coding and MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment for hospital reimbursement, research and planning, in accordance with productivity standards set for the department, and maintaining approved work schedule and submit weekly volume log.

Education and experience

Previous experience assigning ICD-9 and CPT codes and working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology desired; Accredited Record Technical credentials & impatient coding or equivalent experience;
