Position summary

Clinical Laboratory Manager (Job Opening 443630) - Clinical Lab Manager is responsible for daily operations and organization of the Experimental Hematology Laboratory (EHL); supports the collaborative and individual research goals of the 11 individual PIs within EHL, including Lead PI, Dr. John Byrd and Sr PIs, Drs. Lapalombella, Muthusamy, and Woyach; develops management team with lab supervisor that serves entire PI group;  serves as a technical expert in the lab; serves as a key liaison for interactions with intra- and inter- university research collaborators; supports and coordinates education and training of undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral students  Ensures access to shared services (training, cell sorting, clinical processing, DNA sequencing, IT and animal teams) for entire EHL group; supervises shared services technicians, in collaboration with responsible PI; develops and manages laboratory supervisor and PI technicians to ensure a cohesive operation; manages HR responsibilities including hiring, compensation, time keeping, annual reviews and ongoing performance management for direct reports;  ensures overall quality of scientific experiments Directs, oversees and authorizes purchases; negotiates pricing with external vendors; orders lab equipment and supplies; drafts material transfer agreements; supervises laboratory maintenance matters; oversees and monitors spending; creates budgets for correlative science components of clinical trials; Oversees chemical hygiene and radiation safety plans; composes continuing reviews for IBC, IRB and IACUC protocols; develops policies to ensure compliance with governing organizations, coordinates protocol development for correlative laboratory studies; ensures compliance with all safety standards by laboratory personnel; other duties as assigned by PIs or Administrative Director.

Education and experience

Bachelors degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; considerable knowledge of laboratory methods, materials, and equipment is required; supervisory experience desired; cell culture experience desired; experience in blood procurement and flow cytometry desired. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
