Position summary

Exercise Physiology Tech (Job Opening 441453) - SCOPE OF POSITION The Ohio State University Medical Centers mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, education and research. Outpatient Rehabilitation houses various multidisciplinary programs and services that include a focus on primary education and rehabilitation to maximize a patients function. The Activity Based Technician (ABT) is a vital part of the rehab team. The ABT is responsible for many aspects of providing and coordinating patient care in the rehab setting. The ABT carries out locomotor training and other activity based tasks. The ABT also has responsibilities in the areas of data collection, data entry, and data tracking for clinical care as well as for Research Initiatives. The ABT is also responsible for creating, disseminating, and tracking patient and therapy clinic schedules. All patient care duties performed require supervision by a therapist. The ABT is a member of the Rehabilitation department and is an important assistive component of the interdisciplinary medical team that strives to return the patient to his/her highest level of functional independence. This position would support programs in the NeuroRecovery Network Outpatient Clinic as well as other Outpatient Rehabilitation clinics. POSITION SUMMARY The activity based technician assists in the clinical, technical, clerical and educational operations of the Outpatient Rehabilitation Departments primarily in Activity Based Therapy/Exercise Physiology settings (i.e., locomotor training). Under general supervision, prepares physical exercise programs and administers graded exercise tests. Responsible for training and demonstrating appropriate exercise techniques and equipment usage, as well as documenting and submitting patient progress. Develops, implements, and coordinates exercise/activity-based therapy programs and administers medical tests under physicians and/or therapists supervision. The ABT may be involved in research initiatives involving activity based interventions as decided upon by the department.

Education and experience

Bachelors Degree in exercise science or related degree. Degree with equivalent experience will be considered. Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and basic exercise science preferred. Knowledge of computers (including Word, Excel, and media applications) and exceptional customer relations skills.
