Position summary

Lead Anesthesia Technician (Job Opening 450840) - Scope of Position: The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. The Lead Anesthesia Technician functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the University Hospital Operating Rooms and other approved anesthetizing locations in Doan and Rhodes Hall, University Hospitals Clinic, Labor and Delivery, and the Neuropsychiatric Building. The team reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team consisting of registered nurses, surgical technologist, anesthesiologist, perioperative tech and surgeon provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of patient care outcomes, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. Additionally, the Lead Anesthesia Technician is responsible for coordinating Anesthesia and Auto transfusion services, including technical and logistical support to the physicians and hospital staff for surgical procedures. Also, the Lead Anesthesia Technician will supervise other Anesthesia Technicians according to shift, and make sure all duties are completed properly and in a timely manner.

Position Summary: The Lead Anesthesia Technician works under the supervision of the Manager, Anesthesia Services and performs a variety of supervisory, equipment, and supply related tasks. The Lead Anesthesia Technician will help make daily assignment schedules and make sure all Anesthesia Technicians stay on task. Provides diagnostic and treatment services during regular recurring critical care situations: set up, check, inspect, maintain and calibrate a variety of anesthesia equipment. Performs various anesthesia specialized treatment procedures that will significantly affect the accuracy and reliability of further processes associated with the anesthetic course of the patient. The Lead Anesthesia Technician will follow all standards regarding safety of all patients, staff and self. In addition, will be responsible to make sure all work areas are to be stocked according to levels, clean and organized. The Lead Anesthesia Technician is also responsible for demonstrating a positive, collaborative attitude, and being respectful to all patients, family and staff members.

Education and experience

Per Classified Civil Service Requirements. High school graduate; 6 months patient care experience in an operating room/anesthesia setting or equivalent; 3 months supervisory experience or equivalent. A degree in Biomedical Technology is preferred but not required with equivalent combination of education and experience of 2-3 years. Experience in anesthesia equipment management preferred. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals preferred. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence preferred. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals preferred. Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen and background check.
