Position summary

Surgical Tech - IP (Job Opening 454724) - SCOPE OF POSITION The Surgical Technologist (ST) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the Gastroenterology Endoscopy unit, who reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the RN, LPN, ST, Sterile Supply Tech, Information Associate, Office Assistants, Office Associates, and Physicians, provides patient care and supportive services to achieve positive patient outcomes, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization and cost reduction. POSITION SUMMARY The ST is responsible for providing care to the patient and his/her family under the direction of the RN and/or Physician. The ST is responsible for collecting data, performing technical skills related to endoscopic and physiologic testing patient care, reporting to the RN and documenting. Under the supervision of the Endoscopy Charge Nurse, the ST performs basic endoscopy room materials services tasks, direct patient care activities and equipment processing. Under direct supervision of an endoscopic physician, the ST assists with endoscopy handling accessory equipment. The ST performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care, meets hospital continuing education requirements and works toward Gastroenterology Tech certificate completion. Hours and shifts will vary depending on the needs of the unit and call will be assigned on a rotating basis.

Education and experience

Must be a high school graduate or possess the GED, and must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program or the equivalent. Previous experience in the Operating Room as Surgical Technologist is preferred.
