Position summary

Research Nurse (Job Opening 440127) - Clinical Research Specialist functions as Research Nurse for inpatient or outpatient clinical trials in the clinical research unit in the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Internal Medicine; communicates closely with principal investigators. Reports to the Division Director and the Clinical Research Administrator/Manager of the research unit and the COM non-cancer Clinical Trials Management Organization in implementation and coordination of clinical research protocols; plans, organizes and coordinates care of patients on clinical research protocols; determines subject eligibility; screens, recruits, enrolls and follows subjects in research studies according to study protocol; assess risk/benefit ratios; obtains informed consent; monitors care of study subjects and insures proper follow-up visits are scheduled and conducted; monitors subjects for adverse reactions and reports to IRB and study sponsor; provides subject and family education regarding participation in clinical research as well as education regarding investigational drugs and/or devices; evaluates subjects for compliance related to protocol; collects, processes and distributes biological specimens for analysis; as required performs duties that include clinical management of subjects as it relates to pulmonary function and hypertension associated with clinical research trials; collects, records and manages pertinent subject data and inputs information into computer databases and required regulatory forms; updates patient databases; answers data query questions; oversees and maintains IRB regulatory files and submits continuing reviews; assists in determining study budgets, verifies any expenditures charged to the study; reports research subject disbursements and stays within budget guidelines of study; maintains study supplies and inventory; assists in developing plans to meet requirements of new studies/protocols; collects information for research and assists with grant preparation and/or st

Education and experience

Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent required; current Ohio licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) required; experience in a clinical research capacity (collecting, analyzing and entering data) desired; clinical research certification from ACRP (Association of Clinical Research Professionals) or SoCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates) desired or willingness to obtain certification within 2-years of hire; specific experience in pulmonary and/or critical care medicine research desired; computer literacy required with knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications desired.
