The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to successfully transition from student to professional through a Full-Time, structured, 14-week paid orientation to the field of Oncology Nursing. The James is one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers and is the home to pioneering cancer research, prevention and treatment in the progressive atmosphere of a dynamic university hospital setting.
The James specializes in various areas of medical and surgical nursing specialties. The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each intern will be provided with support from a Nurse Residency Program Educator who has advanced Nursing education and experience in transitioning new nurses from students to professionals and in the clinical specialty areas. The Nurse Residency Program Educator is also responsible for scheduling, facilitating the personalized Internship experience, continuously revising the track-specific orientation pathway and evaluating the progress of each assigned intern based upon the feedback of the multidisciplinary team and the intern's self-evaluation to provide interns progression.
Nurse Residency will interview for all available positions. Candidate preference on unit placement will strongly be considered; however exception will be based on the unit need.

The Registered Nurse-Patient Care Coordinator (RN-PCC) functions as a member of a team of care providers cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. The RN-PCC is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The RN-PCC is responsible for assessing, prescribing, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients. The RN-PCC prioritizes patient care needs and provides leadership to, and development of, the patient care team.
Education and experience
Graduate from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program required; current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing required; previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
