Position summary

PA/RNFA (Job Opening 442994) - Scope of Position: The position works in collaboration with surgeons and health care team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing cardiac and peripheral vascular surgery. The position is expected to function on the day shift in the cardiothoracic operating rooms, the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and other patient care areas as needed. Functions as first assist to the surgeon during the operative procedure and provides support and care throughout the perioperative process. The position will experience extended hours and emergent call-ins to meet patient needs. Position Summary: Provides preoperative assessment and support in collaboration with the health care team. Serves as first assist during cardiovascular surgical procedures. Performs preoperative patient assessment. Provides pre- and postoperative teaching and support. Performs post-operative removal of catheters, tubes, pacing wires, and IABP. Assists in the training of students and staff, and communicates with other members of the health care team to assure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period. Completes appropriate documentation of services, all under the supervision of a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Education and experience

Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing. Current Ohio license or interim permit. Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR). Successful completion of RNFA program. Two years experience in perioperative nursing. One year experience in cardiovascular perioperative nursing. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in surgical assist procedures including endoscopic vessel harvest. BLS certification. OR Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program or equivalent combination of education and experience. National Certification Commission for Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) certification. Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a physician assistant.
