Mechanical Engineer (Job Opening 434977) - Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide support for meeting the Department and Medical Center goals.
Mechanical Engineer to oversee and manage the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (refrigeration) systems (HVAC/R), plumbing, medical gas, fire protection and other mechanical & utility distribution systems throughout the health system, which incorporates 4.3+ million square feet of space over 15 sites. Ongoing assessments of infrastructure and assets are needed to ensure life safety and patient safety is maintained. Designs and develops project specifications and drawings for HVAC/Mechanical systems and distribution equipment; assesses feasibility, determines alternatives, and selects most effective approach of proposed installations or modifications to equipment; participates in resolution of technical issues relating to HVAC/R, control, operational sequencing and control interfaces of equipment; designs and analyzes HVAC controls and operational sequences; monitors and evaluates operational performance and effectiveness of equipment and utility management program and recommends modifications; ensures conformity and compliance to all federal, state, local regulatory codes of mechanical systems and equipment; evaluates, recommends and implements equipment and performance standards; supervises construction, installation, and testing of assigned projects; estimates and monitors time and material costs; prioritizes activities related to installation and modification of building systems and equipment; recommends and conducts technical training programs; systems and equipment are operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - position will be subject to call-back;

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for operational performance and regulatory compliance of the mechanical systems and equipment designated. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for assessing, recommending and implementing equipment and performance standards in support of effective operations of equipment and efficient utilization of utilities. The Mechanical Engineer will prioritize activities related to the installation and modification of building systems and equipment.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide leadership and development of the Facilities Engineering Team and support the Department's goals and mission.
Education and experience
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Considerable engineering and technical experience & GED Certificate). Professional Engineer desired. Considerable experience with mechanical systems required, preferably in a hospital setting. Considerable computer skills in both engineering and office software. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Licensure as a Professional Engineer desired.
