Position summary

Research Analytics Specialist (Job Opening 436811) - Serves as a Research Analytics Specialist in the Division of Human Genetics within the Department of Internal Medicine who manages data and implements new features within the Division of Human Genetics Data Management Platform hosted at the Ohio Supercomputer Center; creates and maintains complex process reporting queries; designs and executes queries combining clinical and genomic data to prepare data sets in specialized formats (e.g., PED/MAP, VCF) for analysis in R, PLINK, and other software packages; devises and implements quality control queries and recommends process changes to resolve persistent data quality issues; identifies issues with the divisions data management platform software and works with the vendor and/or Ohio Supercomputer Center staff to resolve; extensively uses Linux high-performance computing environment at the Ohio Supercomputer Center to execute systems administration tasks such as compilation of third-party software from source code; designs and establishes integrated databases containing phenotypic and genotypic data; identifies repositories, data elements, and issues related to capturing required data; writes, documents and maintains code for custom SQL queries and reports; writes, documents and maintains scripts and pipelines for processing of genomic data; writes, documents and maintains Java applications and Angular JS web applications to facilitate reporting and end-user interaction with data; creates and maintains a code base of Bash shell, Awk, and R scripts; utilizes Git, literate programming and other techniques to document data provenance and analysis steps to ensure reproducibility.

Education and experience

Bachelors degree in computer science or a similar field required; Master's degree preferred; experience with designing and implementing databases required; experience developing in low-level (C/C++) and high-level (Perl, Python, SQL, Bash shell) languages required; experience working in Linux-based or high-performance computing environment required; experience with tools and processes used in collaboratively developing, maintaining and documenting a codebase, such as distributed version control systems (Git) and issue tracking systems (JIRA) preferred; experience with IBM DB2 preferred; requires successful completion of a background check; pre-employment physical including a drug screen may be required;
