Position summary

Network Engineer (Job Opening 437825) - Scope of Position
Responsible for daily operations and support of network and monitoring systems. The Network Engineering Team is within OSUMC IT Technology Services and Support is committed to assisting The Ohio State University Medical Center OSUMC) and its patients.

Position Summary
Responsible for the engineering, build, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of network and related monitoring systems to ensure stability, reliability and acceptable performance. Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the planning, design, installation, and implementation of the network infrastructure. Plans and develops the detailed engineering, design and implementation of the Medical Center?s network environment. Plans and performs upgrades of network systems hardware and support systems in accordance with ITIL best practices. Responsible for network systems projects that range from medium to large in scope, risk and impact. Leads and facilitates strategic projects involved in evaluating and researching new and existing products, procedures and/or workflows needs associated with network systems for the Medical Center. Researches current and developing technologies to provide technical guidance pertaining to the capabilities, limitations and requirements of network systems.  

This position will mainly focus on load balancing implementations, configurations and troubleshooting. The engineer will spend 50% to 60% of their time working with the application teams to enhance this area of expertise.

Education and experience

-Degree in Computer Science or related field desired, and 5 years of network experience, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills;
-Knowledge and practical application of routing protocols;
-Familiarity with security systems such as IDS/IPS;
-Familiarity with firewall technologies;
-Knowledge and use of 802.11;
-Knowledge and practical application of Layer 2-4 networking standards;
-Familiarity with ITIL best practice guidelines desired.

-Previous experience with load balancing devices like the Citrix NetScaler, F5 BIG-IP LTM and A10 Thunder/Lighting
