Position summary

BMI Specialist (Job Opening 442645) - Duties will be divided among the Stover Lab (70%) and Biomedical Informatics Core Resource (30%). Implements and supports complex scientific software tools and deployment for basic and clinical research studies; performs data analysis for high-dimensional/high throughput next generation sequencing data from wide range of experiments, including but not limited to RNA-seq, targeted sequencing, whole exome or genome sequencing, cell-free DNA sequencing, small-RNA sequencing from various platforms; designs and develops integrated data analysis pipelines, contributes to on-going pipeline infrastructure development efforts; identifies and resolves hardware and software issues; works closely with sequencing facilities to provide quality control measures; utilizing the software tools to accommodate the user requests with a minimum turn-around time; interacts with biomedical researchers, providing technical expertise and developing solutions; contributes to posters and performs other duties as assigned

Education and experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required; Masters degree in bioinformatics preferred; computer operations experience; experience in C/C++, R, Linux/Unix, Scripting, Genomic Analysis Software (Lifescope, CASABA, GATK, Partek, Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, Ingenuity Variant Analysis), samtools, Third-party aligners, variant detection tools. Desired: Systems design and tools integration: experience in an academic research invironment; familiarity with OSU administrative & research processes.  Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug-screen.
