Position summary

Medical Illustrator (Job Opening 443019) - Receives projects from Senior Graphic Designer/Medical Illustrator and produces medical illustrations for print and multimedia use; creates custom graphic designs for various media including print, web and multimedia projects; collaborates with external vendors procuring estimates, providing final artwork to specifications and ensuring quality of final products; designs and arranges custom layouts in multiple software programs; designs, prepares and assembles final layouts as needed.  Supports graphic illustrator in poster printing services during busy periods and fills in to continue poster printing services during graphic illustrators absence. Formats, adjusts and prints posters; provides extensive customer service; directly consults with and advises clients to determine, assess and evaluate poster printing requirements; calculates cost and provides written estimates; initiates and oversees completion of appropriate documents for provision of poster printing services to ensure payment; consults with clients and creates poster layouts as needed.  Supports graphic illustrator in portrait photography services during busy periods and fills in to continue portrait photography services during graphic illustrators absence by taking portrait photos in studio, sizing, and formatting, and retouching as needed.

Education and experience

Bachelors degree in Medical Illustration or Biomedical Communications discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; Masters degree preferred.  Must be board-certified medical illustrator (CMI) or actively seeking certification; proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (ie. Photoshop, Illustrator)required; experience working in ZBrush, Cinema 4D, and Maya is preferred.  Ability to research and comprehend advanced scientific and medical concepts preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
