Position summary

Research Associate 2-B/H (Job Opening 440747) - Research Associate 2-B/H designs, executes and manages research projects, studies and activities in the research laboratory in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the Department of Internal Medicine; coordinates the development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodology and techniques; conceptualizes, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced laboratory techniques; plans and coordinates the conduct of tests; plans the processing and analysis of data; conducts updates on progress; evaluates research findings and assists in reporting to sponsors; establishes controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of research literature relevant to research being investigated; prepares for papers for publication and presentation; assists in writing grants; assists with the development and preparation of grant proposals to obtain outside funding in support of research; evaluates and recommends funding sources; attends and presents at national and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars; participates in developing research goals; develops and establishes research criteria and standards to meet the goals of the research project; participates in developing and managing grant budgets; monitors expenses; ensures compliance with protocol requirements, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including, but not limited to record keeping and proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials; trains and/or supervises research staff, including determining schedules; manages daily operations of the laboratory; oversees and initiates the procurement of lab supplies and equipment; provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs.

Education and experience

Master?s degree in biological or chemical sciences or related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required; Doctorate degree in biological or chemical sciences is desired. Considerable experience in a research capacity required, including lab experience in analytical assays for detection of metabolic intermediate content in tissues using flourometry, UV, spectrophotometry, HPLC, LC/Mass Spectrometry and performing quantitative protein assays, immunoblots and rtPCR assays. Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidate may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
