Position summary

Research Scientist (Job Opening 442199) - Research Scientist to conduct independent research in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity, focusing on Salmonella pathogenesis; under the guidance of scientific mentor, develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods in an independent fashion; plans, designs and conducts complex experiments; compiles, analyzes, and evaluates data to establish the relevance to the problems being evaluated; participates in determining research and priorities and in planning programs of research; presents at national and international scientific meetings; extracts, compiles and writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals; participates in or conducts workshops, lectures, and seminars; oversees junior investigators and support personnel both in the PI?s laboratory and in the Department; participates in the development of new proposals for research; develops, writes, and submits grant proposals of original research for funding as principal investigator or co-principal investigator to extramural funding agencies to obtain significant salary and research support from outside agencies;

Education and experience

PhD in Microbiology or related degree such as Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology required; demonstrated ability to be a competent and productive researcher as documented by several publications of considerable interest and value to the field as evidence by favorable reviews, by citation in the work of others, by presentations of papers to professional societies, and/or will have contributed inventions, new designs, or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important applied problems required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
