Position summary

Research Associate 2-B/H (Job Opening 443452) - Research Associate 2-B/H designs, executes and manages next-generation sequencing research projects in the Comprehensive Cancer Center Genomics Shared Resource (GSR); collaborates with GSR users to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies; conceptualizes, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; plans and organizes laboratory protocols into discrete steps for sample number scaling, workflow dovetailing and record keeping; plans, coordinates and oversees processing and analysis of data; analyzes and interprets research data; performs critical analyses of NGSa??related publications and new technology releases (e.g., Genome Web) to identify potential new technologies to be implemented in GSR; assist with development, writing and preparation of grant proposals to obtain cutting-edge instruments for GSR; trains and/or supervises research staff; oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment; provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs.

Education and experience

A Masters degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Considerable experience in a biological/health research capacity is required. A Doctoral degree in an appropriate biological/health science field is desirable; experience in advanced Microsoft Excel (e.g. writing macros), PowerPoint, Word, graphing programs such as SigmaPlot or GraphPad, and a??omics data tools desired; programming experience in handling large data (e.g., Python, R, Bash, or C/C++) desired. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
