Position summary

Research Assistant 2-B/H (Job Opening 445498) - Research Assistant 2-B/H to assist and support scientific investigation to study chromosome dynamics and gene regulation as directed in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of biophysical, molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, fluorescence assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis; Maintains, sorts and processes cellular samples; tests, evaluates and improves current procedures; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; performs and records microscope calibrations and alignment; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; participates departmental seminars and lab meetings; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.

Education and experience

Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health research capacity is required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
