Position summary

Research Assistant 2-B/H (Job Opening 446142) - Research Assistant 2-B/H to assist and support scientific investigation to study brain lipid metabolism and signaling pathways in aging and Alzheimer's disease as directed in the Department of Neuroscience; under the supervision of principle investigator independently conduct assigned experiments; perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Western analysis; test and evaluate current procedures; perform routine procedure on lab animals; record, consolidate and assist with analysis of research results; assist in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepare research progress reports; oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities; assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate students in research methods and equipment operation; monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.

Education and experience

Bachelors degree in a biological/health science with one-year experience of laboratory research or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience. Additional experiences in lab management, molecular and cell biology, and in vivo pharmacology is preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
