Position summary

Research Assistant 1-B/H (Job Opening 454767) - Research Assistant 1-B/H in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity to assist and provide support of research studies on the bacterial biofilm infections utilizing human derived cell lines and tissue culture models as directed; conducts planned research activities using observation, measurement and analytical techniques; prepares solutions, live cultures, and media for scientific experiments; performs a variety of assays and experimental tests; collects, sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; records and consolidates research data; assists with preparation of data and materials for inclusion in research reports, publications and grant applications written by principal investigator; researches current scientific literature on specified topics; assists with instructing research aides, undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures and operation of equipment; calibrates various laboratory equipment and operates microscopes, centrifuges and other laboratory equipment; assists with ordering, stocking and maintenance of research supplies; participates in journal clubs, laboratory meetings and Department activities.

Education and experience

Bachelors degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required; experience with with microscopy, microbiology, immunology, and molecular biology techniques desired; experience with bacterial culturing methods, and tissue culture of mammalian cells strongly desired;  Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
