Research Assistant 1-B/H (Job Opening 454767) - Research Assistant 1-B/H in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity to assist and provide support of research studies on the modulation of cell-cell interactions throughout biofilm development and the mechanisms of development and persistence of non-tuberculous mycobacteria biofilm infections as directed; conducts planned research activities using observation, measurement and analytical techniques; prepares solutions and live culture media for scientific experiments; performs a variety of assays and experimental tests; collects, sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; records and consolidates research data; performs routine experimental procedures on laboratory animals including surgical procedures and/or administration of drugs; assists with care of laboratory animals; assists with preparation of data and materials for inclusion in research reports, publications and grant applications written by principal investigator; researches current scientific literature on specified topics; assists with instructing research aides, undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures and operation of equipment; calibrates various laboratory equipment and operates microscopes, centrifuges and other laboratory equipment; assists with ordering, stocking and maintenance of research supplies; participates in journal clubs, laboratory meetings and Department activities.
Education and experience
Bachelors degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required; experience with with microscopy, immunology, and molecular biology techniques desired; experience with microbiology, bacterial culturing methods, and tissue culture of mammalian cells desired; experience with animal handling and husbandry desired. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
