Student Assistant (Job Opening 456759) - Scope of Position
The Student Assistant functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the Ross Heart Hospital Perioperative Services division. The team reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the registered nurse, surgical technologist, anesthesiologist, surgeon, anesthesia technician, and environmental services provide patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of patient care outcomes, improved service levels, reduced the length of hospitalization and decreased costs. The Perioperative Services are located on the fourth floor of the Ross Heart Hospital, consists of 6 operating rooms and 6 pre-op/Recovery rooms.

Position Summary
The Student Assistant works under the direction of the Manager of Perioperative Services. The student position is responsible for operating room equipment and supply related tasks for the delivery of patient care, and transportation of patients to and from any area in the medical center. They will perform a variety of specialized activities that will significantly affect the accuracy and reliability of patient care data associated with the perioperative course of the patient. Performs technical skills related to patient contact. The student follows universal precautions, safe handling guidelines, and all other infection control standards. Provides for safety/security of self and others and follows special precautions as related to Anesthesia/surgical areas and other appropriate locations. Promotes positive attitude to staff, families, and patient/guests as well as maintains patient confidentiality.

Education and experience

Currently enrolled as a student; Strong reading, writing and simple math (add, subtract, multiply and divide) skills required. Previous health care or service oriented field experience in an acute health care setting is preferred. CPR certification preferred.
