Supv-Patient Access Svc (Job Opening 429357) - SCOPE OF POSITION:
The James Cancer Hospital is committed to improving the access and providing an excellent patient experience. The Supervisor of Financial Counseling functions as an integral member of the Access and Revenue Cycle care team to reflect a culture of collaboration, enthusiasm and mutual respect. The Financial Counseling Supervisor will be the first line contact for The James Chief Financial Officer for the resolution and follow up of issues related to coverage and reimbursement. Supervisor position partners with James Patient Access Services (JPAS) Manager to provide guidance, information, and education to patients and staff to ensure reimbursement of services provided by The James and other OSUWMC entities. Financial Counseling is responsible for assessing self pay, underinsured, Destination Medicine, and VIP client funds to determine appropriate pre-service deposits, payment plans, assistance programs and Charity. The Financial Counseling Supervisor is responsible for gathering, monitoring, and trending data, for both compliance and statistical purposes. Accurate data is gathered prior to or at the time services are rendered.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor position supports the JPAS Clinical Managers who is responsible in the directing, developing and coordinating management of the financial counselors for The James. For Financial Counseling, this includes the interview, assessment and intervention on self pay, underinsured, Destination Medicine, and VIP to determine appropriate pre-service deposits, payment plans, assistance programs and Charity for both inpatient and outpatient accounts as well as other areas identified by the JPAS Administrative Director and/or CFO. Responsibilities would include, in collaboration with the JPAS Clinical Manager, assignment of management responsibilities including P3 follow up, regular performance review and feedback, staff training, tracking and trending of issues impacting customer service and/or reimbursement.

The Supervisor position could be delegated any of the management responsibilities or could be expected to fulfill all the responsibilities in the absence of the manager. The Supervisor is expected to independently fulfill delegated tasks including optimizing and expanding on directions by the manager, offering suggestions/insights to improve performance and workflow, and insuring consistent and on-going communication and education of the staff. The Supervisor is responsible for insuring that standardized procedures and educational materials are consistent with Financial Policies across OSUWMC. In addition, the supervisor will ensure that during the patient interview process all pertinent information is gathered and documented in IHI according to standard workflows. Quality data collection includes demographic, physician, insurance, employment and other miscellaneous information. This collection process includes the interpretation of requirements by Medicare, Medicaid, Medicaid Exchange Plans, dual eligible, presumptive Medicaid, and multiple other payers. The Financial Counseling Supervisor should be able to interpret patient answers to insure accurate information on Medicare secondary questionnaires to insure compliance with billing practices. The Supervisor must be able to use a variety of software packages which include the registration & hospital billing system, eligibility verification, government and payer websites, vendor portals and etc. Will communicate regularly with the physician clinical teams, patients, and payers when limitations, restrictions, documentation requirements and etc. are needed prior for authorizations to take place. Must be able to evaluate complex issues, follow and understand escalation procedures. Displays the highest level of customer service, attentiveness and consideration possible in all cases. Uses multiple system applications and customer service skills to facilitate optimal experience for the patient and successful first time billing for the hospital system. The Financial Counseling Supervisor must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast pace, demanding environment.

Education and experience

Bachelor's Degree preferrred or equivalent experience. Past management/leadership experience. Experience in healthcare/physician practice preferred. Experience with Windows, Excel, Access and Intranet/internet navigation tools as well as system content. Previous scheduling, insurance, medical terminology experience preferred but not required. Demonstrated ability to work in multiple Databases for management and reporting. Ability to work in self-directed manner while interacting with patients, physicians and all medical center faculty and staff. Ability to communicate and demonstrate interpersonal skills required. Familiarity with OSUMC and its entities preferred. Strong demonstrated verbal, written and Presentation skills. EMR and integrated business systems or equivalent combination of education and experience desired. EPIC experience preferred. Minimum 1 year experience in revenue cycle functions and Financial Counseling desire. Knowledge and experience with patient assistance programs and regulations guiding their use.
