Patient Services Technician (Job Opening 430139) - SCOPE OF POSITION
The outpatient service centers, which includes the Outpatient phlebotomy sites located at Ross, Doan, McCampbell, Martha Morehouse, Stoneridge Internal Medicine, Carepoint Lewis Center, Carepoint Gahanna and Central Processing Area encompass specimen collection and specimen processing within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. The Central Processing Area is staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday. The patient service center locations are staffed between the hours of 7:00 am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday, in order to accommodate each patient service center?s specific hours of operation.
The patient service technician (PST) performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, and specimen processing. Verifies accuracy and quality of specimens collected and dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations, and performs training of others in these techniques. Also performs test requisition entry, greets and directs patients through the lab and gathers complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures done in the area. Performs point of care testing; ensures accuracy of results and Quality Control measures by maintaining equipment and instruments. Follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre-employment urine drug screen collections.
Education and experience
High school graduate or equivalent required; Certified phlebotomist preferred; EKG training through an accredited organization preferred.
