At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we've brought together a group of residents that embody the ideals of family medicine – compassion, integrity, community service and respect for all people. Our group works together to achieve our mission, and participate actively in the educational experience of residency.

Why I chose The Ohio State University: The residency program is like a family. I really enjoy working with all of the wonderful faculty, staff and other residents. The curriculum has a perfect mix of academic medicine and community hospital work. There is great support for research involvement, and there are countless opportunities for exposure to world-class sports medicine experiences.

Why I chose The Ohio State University: There were so many reasons why I chose Ohio State. I really liked everyone I met and I could tell that the residents all had great relationships with each other as well as with the faculty, which is something I valued highly. Additionally, I liked that this program offers training in a mix of both an academic and community setting. Because we are a huge academic center, we have resources and training from experts in many subspecialties, while also having a great family medicine inpatient service at the smaller University Hospital East. The Department of Family Medicine also offers the opportunity to do an international rotation, which I would love to do during my time as a resident. Coming from the Detroit area, I also found Columbus to be a really fun and exciting city to explore, while still being close enough to visit home from time to time.

Why I chose The Ohio State University: Ohio State has the resources and curriculum that allows me to tailor my training towards my future practice. Dr. Miser is an incredible program director that cares about every resident. The senior residents were welcoming and passionate about learning.

Why I chose The Ohio State University: I’m known as an Ohio State lifer. I completed my undergraduate, graduate and medical school work here at The Ohio State University. They keep making me offers that I can’t refuse and really, it’s just a great place to be. There are so many resources and opportunities available to pursue no matter what your interests. The football team isn’t bad either. Currently, my interests lay in the prevention of chronic diseases and providing quality healthcare to the underserved and uninsured populations of central Ohio. There is so much good work to be done in these areas and I’m excited to have a powerhouse like Ohio State to help facilitate my efforts.

Why I chose The Ohio State University: Because I fell in love with the educational process and environment while I was in medical school here. The faculty and staff are amazing! Everyone is supportive and encourages me to be the best that I can be. We have a strong family culture in the program and we all take care of each other and work exceptionally well as a team. The diversity of the patients in backgrounds, socio-economic status and medical complexity makes an amazing platform for learning as well. Patients travel from all over to be seen here!

Additionally, it's a serendipitous coincidence that the residency is based in a wonderful city like Columbus.

Why I chose Ohio State University: I chose OSU because of my experience as a rotating medical student. The welcoming personalities of the residents and faculty made my time enjoyable. The program creates an educational and encouraging atmosphere that was unmatched. In addition to this, OSU's medical center and partnership with one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals in Nationwide Children's Hospital ensured the best training possible during my residency. It was the best combination of factors when looking into a residency program.

Why I chose The Ohio State University: I loved my time at Ohio State during undergrad, and I knew after my interview day that I needed to come back. I really liked how OSU's Department of Family Medicine has the resources, research and innovation of an academic powerhouse while still providing the experience of a community program with our family-medicine-run inpatient service at OSU East. More importantly, the people here are amazing. All of the faculty and residents that I met on my interview day are people that I wanted to work with, learn from and spend time with over the next three years and more. All this while living in the great city of Columbus made for my dream residency program. My high hopes and expectations have been exceeded now that I am half way through my intern year!

For me in particular, I have the opportunity to pursue academics, engineering projects and global health. I also get the opportunity to work with world renowned specialists across all specialties. Why I chose Ohio State University:  The Family Medicine Residency Program at The Ohio State University offers very broad training in all areas of family medicine. We are fortunate enough to have access to all the benefits of a large academic medical center, while having an unopposed feel during our inpatient months at University Hospital East. Additionally, the faculty at OSU, both in family medicine and other specialties, have years of experience in education, creating a great learning environment. Above all though, the biggest reason I decided to come to Ohio State was for the people. Our residents, faculty, administration and support staff in the Department of Family Medicine make up a collective unit that is very welcoming and supportive.

In my other interviews, I found places that I could have made myself fit into but after meeting the faculty and residents here, I knew this was a program that I could call my home. The educational opportunities are second to none and the people that I have the pleasure of working with everyday are amazing. Here, I've found ways to incorporate my interests in research, public health, leadership, education and adolescent medicine into my residency curriculum without having to search for assistance. I couldn't have found a better fit. Go Bucks!
