In keeping with the overall mission of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to “improve patients’ lives through research,” the department has a committed faculty of clinical, translational and basic scientists working to discover breakthroughs to end human suffering.

Research studies

Pancreatology

PROCEED
The PROCEED study is seeking patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis. This study will also enroll control patients (those with no pancreas disease and with chronic upper abdominal pain). Participants will be asked to complete surveys, provide biological specimens, and undergo abdominal imaging or endoscopy. Patients will be contacted annually for 5 years to collect follow-up data.

Camostat
This study is seeking patients who are currently experiencing moderate pain from chronic pancreatitis. Participants will take oral placebo or NI-03 pill three times a day for two months and document any differences in mood, behavior, or pain. The study requires a weekly study visit for 7 weeks.

National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) Registry

The NPF has a national database used to track the health and treatments of people with any pancreatic diseases. The registry collects information from healthcare providers and patients through a secure web-based portal. No extra visits are required to participate.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

LUX
This study is seeking patients who have been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease but either failed or were intolerant to biologic therapy. Patients will be given MEDI2070 or placebo either by IV infusion or injection underneath the skin. This study requires monthly study visits for 1 year.

True North
This study seeks patients with Ulcerative Colitis to test oral Ozanimod (RPC1063) treatment. Ozanimod works like an immunomodulator. Patients will take placebo or Ozanimod for 10 weeks. Those patients showing remission will continue in the second phase of the trial lasting 42 weeks.

Comprehensive Gastroenterology

Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) Registry

The SBS Registry is seeking patients with a history of SBS, there is no exclusion criteria. The purpose of the registry is to observe each patients disease over a long period of time. All data is collected by chart review and there are no extra visits for the registry.
