Top-ranking education programs

The department’s three-year residency program and fellowship programs are among the most competitive in the country. We offer numerous clinical, surgical, research and teaching opportunities in the areas of cornea and external disease, glaucoma, refractive surgery, vitreoretinal disease and neuro-ophthalmology/orbital disease.
 
Department faculty are involved in a number of multi-center clinical trials funded by the National Eye Institute and have contributed to medicine's base of knowledge of ocular diseases through efforts aimed at new treatments for the prevention and treatment of blinding disorders.

Ophthalmology Residency Program


The Department of Ophthalmology's three-year Ophthalmology Residency (plus a one year integrated internship) for six new residents each year. The program meets all the requirements from the American Board of Ophthalmology and is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education.

Optometry Residency Program


The combined Contact Lens and Ocular Disease Residency is designed to attract qualified candidates and provide an extensive clinical experience in specialty contact lens fitting and ocular disease management. There is one available position for the 12 month program.

The fellowship programs in cornea and external disease, surgical retina, medical retina/ocular oncology and glaucoma offer numerous clinical, surgical, research and teaching opportunities.

CME and Educational Events


The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science is dedicated to providing high-quality educational events. The department offers a variety of annual events for continuing medical education.

Grand Rounds: Thursdays (except July) 8:00-9:00am
Resident Lecture Series: Weekday mornings (August - March) 7:00-7:45 am
