Research interests: Ischemic preconditioning, mitochondrial function during ischemic preconditioning, myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury, cell transplantation and the effect of myocardial oxygen content on survival of transplanted cells

Dr. Crestanello’s current research interests are focused on clinical outcomes and involve:

  • The effect of chronic lung disease on outcomes after heart valve surgery or TAVR
  • Hybrid coronary revascularization
  • Outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement
  • Outcomes after cardiac surgery
  • The effect of hyponatremia on outcomes after cardiac surgery
Dr. Crestanello also collaborates with Dr. Laksmi Prasad Dasi in the Department of Biomedical Engineering on improving prosthesis designs for valve surgery to improve its safety and prevent complications.
