Doug Gouchoe earned his MD from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He is currently a general surgery resident at Wright-Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Doug is interested in organ regeneration, ex-vivo lung perfusion and plans to pursue a career in cardiac surgery with a focus in thoracic transplantation.

Jung Lye Kim earned her PhD in Food Science and Nutrition and throughout her 16 years research experience she has mastered highly technical and demanding skills to study mechanisms of ischemic reperfusion injury and develop treatments to prevent tissue damage and death.

Yonggyu Lee earned his PhD in immunology and has developed several small animal disease models throughout his 15 years of experience. In the COPPER Lab, he performs lung and liver transplantation, the ischemic reperfusion injury model, and ex-vivo organ perfusion in rodents for transplantation research.

Suhavi holds a BS in Public Health from the Ohio State University. As she completes her Master of Public Health, she explores many research topics, including the impacts of mass incarceration on the Black community, education access disparities, and harm reduction. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Xi holds an MD and PhD from Second Military Medical University in China. He is an experienced small animal microsurgeon with over 30 years of experience in research and medicine. He has mastered countless animal models, including murine hind limb transplants, brain transplants, heart transplants, and liver transplants.

Declan is a second-year Psychology student at the Ohio State University. His research interests include organ transplantation and perfusion, neurology, and psychiatric disorders, and he is passionate about helping make healthcare more accessible to the greater population. In his free time, he enjoys spending time in nature, participating in Undergraduate Student Government, and playing violin in the Symphony Orchestra at Ohio State.

Ervin is a third-year biomedical engineering, with a nuclear engineering minor, student at The Ohio State University. Ervin’s research interests include organ preservation, ex vivo organ perfusion, and tissue engineering and regeneration. He plans on attending medical school upon graduation with hopes of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon. Outside of the lab, Ervin is a teaching assistant, involved in multiple organizations on campus, and enjoys watching hockey and spending time with his friends.

Karli is a third-year Chemistry major at the Ohio State University. She has various research interests in medical advancement, especially the work done with repairing organs in the COPPER Lab. Her goal is to graduate early and attend OSU Medical School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, showing Quarter horses, and cheering for the OSU football team.

Elena is a third-year microbiology student pursuing veterinary medicine. She works in animal husbandry at the COPPER Lab and in her free time, she enjoys riding horses, cooking, and traveling.

Montana is a third-year biology student at The Ohio State University with minors in mycology and animal medicine. Montana’s research interests include microsurgery, ex vivo organ perfusion, and animal husbandry. She plans on attending veterinary school after graduation with aspirations of becoming an emergency veterinarian. In her free time, Montana enjoys playing video games and spending time with her cats.

Shay is a third-year Neuroscience on the Pre-Medicine track, and part of the Biological Sciences Scholars program at the Ohio State University. His research interests are cardiac and hepatic surgery outcomes, ex-vivo lung/liver perfusion, and organ preservation. Shay plans to attend medical school and work as a physician or surgeon in the future. In his free time, Shay enjoys playing and watching sports, reading, and working as a tutor for elementary and high school students.
