Nationally ranked in pediatric surgery

The Division of Pediatric Surgery conducts its clinical, educational, research and academic programs at Nationwide Children's Hospital. It is the largest pediatric treatment center in the United States and its pediatric surgeons perform over 4,000 operative procedures every year. Nationwide Children’s Hospital ranks among the top 10 pediatric research institutes in the country.

Accomplishments in care

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is consistently ranked in the top 10 Children's Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. All outpatients are evaluated in a pediatric surgical clinic in the Outpatient Care Center, providing ready access to laboratory, radiological and diagnostic services. We also provide advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic and theracoscopic techniques through our Minimally Invasive Surgery program. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the only hospitals in the United States that is an American College of Surgeons designated Level I pediatric trauma center, an American Burn Association verified pediatric burn center and a Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) approved pediatric rehabilitation center.

Experts in pediatric surgery

The faculty members in the division include 15 board-certified pediatric surgeons, 5 of whom are also certified in surgical critical care, and 1 hospitalist, who is board-certified in general surgery, specializes in burn and trauma care and is a full-time PhD scientist. The division provides world class expertise in multiple focused areas of excellence including pediatric minimally invasive surgery, burn care, trauma care, inflammatory bowel disease surgery, adolescent bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal motility disorders, chest wall deformities, surgical oncology and surgical endocrinology.
