As an acute care surgeon and health services researcher, my goal is to develop a body of work that will demonstrably improve the quality of care and outcomes for patients with injury and general surgery emergencies. My research utilizes qualitative methods, survey research, epidemiology, and geographic information systems. I examine the structures, processes, and psychosocial factors that affect outcomes for patients with unexpected surgical disease and trauma with a focus on geographic and sociodemographic disparities.
